SAFETY, FRONT : One of the main reasons for traffic accidents involving motorcycles, is low visibility of our relatively small, narrow bikes. How often have you heard a car driver providing the following excuse: "I didn't see the bike." High visibility colors on your riding gear may help, but I prefer to make sure that the motorcycle stands out, not the rider. If they don't see the bikes, they see the riders even less. Having additional driving or fog lights up front makes a world of difference. With my Motolights on, cars normally get out of my way and almost always see me and never cut me off. My Kisan headlight modulator, is perfect for splitting lanes in heavy traffic. Modulating headlight is an attention grabber. Also changing your OEM horn with a much louder Fiamm brand, may save you from being run over by some cell phone talking, SUV driver.

Motolight driving lights provide the main front illumination on my K1200RS. I may have more than 40,000 miles on these Motolight units. I use 75 Watts, 10 Degrees Narrow Beam RM16 Bulbs in each housing. For more info visit: motolight.com.
Also on the front: 100 Watts Super White H7, Low Beam and 55W - 85W PIAA H3, High Beam.
Also on the front: Run-N-Lites Running Lights.

KISAN Tech's New Headlight Modulator. If you are tired of being cut off by drivers who multitask behind the wheel--you know the kind, on the cell phone while they're watching a movie on the in-dash DVD player and eating an ice cream the same time. You need Kisan's new plug and play PathBlazer. I have had Kisan's older system on Nandi for a few years, but this new system is superior in many ways. It plugs in 2 minutes without any tools. Simply unplug your BMW's 3 prong headlight module, insert it to Kisan's adapter and plug the Kisan into the BMW's socket. You also run a daylight sensor wire from the unit which you can zip tie or mount anywhere near the dash. That's it. The headlight's cover or the bulbs do not need to be touched.

What does it do: It magically disperses cars from your bath of travel. By activating high beam, Kisan Tech's Headlight Modulator flashes (or modulates) your headlight during daylight hours and make your motorcycle many times more visible in traffic. Heck, most cars even think that you are a secret patrol vehicle and clear a path for you. It is harmless to the bike and is legal in all 50 of our States of the Union. The sensor knows when to activate the unit, so at night or inside tunnels your high beam switches to normal operation automatically. It is available for all makes of bikes and also works with 2005 BMW models with CAN-Bus wiring system, including the K1200S and k1200R.

I activate my Kisan when I try to ride in high traffic or split lanes. It is highly recommended. Visit www.KisanTech.com for more info, or click on the image below.

SAFETY, REAR: In 1988, at around 2AM, Sunday morning, on a quiet 4 lane street in Manhattan, with lots of room to spare and hardly any traffic at all, a mindless Taxi driver rear-ended my then Moto Guzzi V-50III (500 cc), with me on it. He was going to take off, but was chased down by a police car which was parked right there and saw the whole thing. Our mindless Taxi drivers' excuse: you guessed it, "I didn't see you." And who can blame him. Our bikes simply do not project enough visibility on the rear. Just a small little red light, that gets brighter when we brake. No wonder we get rear-ended so often. Now of course, I am too aware of my rear, hence the few extra lights. Lite Buddys add to the visible width of the bike. 2nd LED strip break light, makes it known without a doubt that I am slowing down, or hard breaking. I can feel the difference in the distance cars maintain after the installation of the LED strip. It's pretty obvious that they do see me now on intersections, or at night.

SAFETY, AWARENESS: As important as it is for others to see you on the road, it is even more important for you to see neighboring vehicles. I like to be in control of my space when I'm on the road. I don't expect anyone to be aware of me, I assume that all car/truck drivers are mindless or drinking coffee or talking on the phone. In another word, I do not count on others to help keep me safe, instead I take an active interest in keeping myself safe on the road. I have had these Saeng Quick Scans as my primary mirrors for about 4 years and almost 50,000 miles. I really like them. They provide a 180 degree view of what's around me. They reveal traffic two lanes on either side and my back simultaneously. They eliminate blind spot 100%. On the negative side, they require good eye sight and getting used to.

Knowing what's around you at all times, making sure that you are being seen and forcing other vehicles to notice when you break are 3 most important survival techniques for motorcyclists.
