About the Ride

Following the major success of our March 23, 2000 Spring Equinox Ride in Connecticut, where over 60 K12RSes gathered, we decided not to wait another year to relive the experience.

On Saturday, June 24, 2000, at 12:00 PM in Woodstock, Vermont, a group of BMW K1200RS motorcycles and their riders united for a weekend of spirited rides through Vermont's famed twisties, photo opportunity, grub and camaraderie.

First Annual Summer Solstice K1200RS Ride in Wookstock, Vermont (SSR) maybe behind us, but the memories that were created will last for a long time. This rally had its own unique character and vibe. It was very different from our Spring Equinox Ride to put it mildly.

I can safely say that the true potential of the mighty K12RS may have been tapped by many this weekend:The flawless cornering prowess at extreme speeds, high speed stability, industrial strength breaks with life saving ABS, extra creamy and smooth engine that begs to be driven at close to the 9000 rpm redline and always puts out tons of torque, so much so that you don't need to go near the break lever. (I hardly saw anyone's break light come on as we were zipping through VT's famed roads at warp speeds.) Add to that the long distance comfort and the rider adjustable everything. (Every part of the machine that touches the rider's body is adjustable.)

We had 18 enthusiastic riders attending this rally, no female riders, but quite a few passengers.

The following is just a sampling of some of the comments and lasting memories created this past weekend by 2 of the riders, Vic and Darren:

"What a weekend !!!!!! - absolutely the most complete m'cycle experience I've been thru.....725 miles of absolute, controlled hooliganism, complete with a frustrated cop, lights ablazin, giving it his all trying to catch the 8 of us in the twisties laugher....." Vic

Memories:

--Meter Maid at Woodstock Green trying, in vain, to get someone to pay for the group who has descended on her turf
--
People "lightening their load" by dropping all non-essential gear at the farm
--Shiva trying to get everyone organized while at the Green, "what plan, who needs a plan?"
--
Chris ( from Manhattan ) white as a ghost- kept shaking his head at dinner muttering something like "you guys are f'ing insane"... was thinking he would "properly" break in his 1,000 motor this weekend ( ha ah ha ! )
-- Lionel yelling "HARLEYS SUCK" as a hog passes in front of the Hotel lunch stop
-- How much for that Surf & Turf, $44!!!, No, $24
-- Give us 6 of them surf and turf suckers
-- Front runners Lionel and Vic stopping and saying lets do it again - big U-turn, Marakech K from Ontario also pulling a U turn and running back for 10 miles "Hey the whole place is twisty, why stop"

-- Story is that Officer Pete was hiding behind a barn in wait * Marakech K with ONT plate speeds by at undetermined velocity * As Officer Pete starts to pull out to chase his meal ticket, 5 more speedsters pass by him going flat out * Officer Pete starts the chase * Takes him 4 miles to catch up * Last rider in pack says he "thinks" he saw blue flashing lights for the last few miles * Officer Pete pulls entire pack over, belly as big as a barn door, as he is yelling at top of his lungs another pack of K's come up the road at warp, Officer is pleased with himself, waves the entire lot over, starts a group sermon, then is beside himself what to do about "his" predicament * Whole time Officer Pete is lecturing, the V1's on the bikes are screaming in harmony, he can't figure out which Marakech K was the first to pass, that's because it's the one with the ONT plate and its at the top * Officer Pete tells whole group to move on after our fearless leader VIC negotiates with him.
